Video games are a medium, through which one can openly spread one’s culture to countless peoples. During my study abroad I realized that most French people know a few English words or have studied English. Some lucky few have lived abroad in England for a while, but the most proficient English speakers I met were gamers. If we can spread language through video games then what else is actually being transferred over? A language is concrete and therefore easy to see. Could we be spreading cultures through this relatively new art form?
I look at how video games have affected the world and some good and bad effects they may have on people. They have on their own created a gamer culture around the world. When I think about all of my friends that have learned Japanese or at least taken one Japanese course here at Union, a lot of gamers come to mind.
I would like to delve into this and see how France very much helped open up this new world and how it has continued to push it further. For instance, Assassins Creed was a video game that is now being made into a movie. I look into how the French culture has effected the world of video games, and through that the world.
