This thesis will be exploring the works of Sallust, primarily the Bellum Catalinae. It will be looking at the language used therein in a technical context, a stylistic context, and a historical context to gain insight into ancient historiography and into Sallust himself. Ultimately, the goal will be to extract the author from the work to the extent possible given the thousands of years between then and now.
