The purpose of this research is to examine problems and policies associated with drinking water quality; two case studies are conducted to investigate community approaches and response. In depth case studies were done by collecting detailed information on the Schenectady Water Department and the Schenectady Water Quality Coordinating Committee. Information on organizational goals, responsibilities, and policy assessments were examined and a guided conversation with a staffmember at each place was conducted. Results suggest that while efforts to mitigate water pollution and improve water quality are there, challenges remain.
