The objective of my project is to analyze the energy consumption of the new Science and Engineering Building, Ainlay Hall. This will be done using the Department of Energy’s software, EnergyPlus, to run a complete energy simulation on a three-dimensional computer model of the new building. This study is being done with the intention of creating an understanding of the building’s energy efficiency, so it can be maintained and improved for the future. Buildings use over 40% of the energy use in the United States. Having programs available such as OpenStudio and EnergyPlus makes it easier for designers, and owners to plan their energy use. This study on the Ainlay Hall looks to see what constitutes its energy use most from varying the building's characteristics. This will hopefully give a wholistic understanding in how energy is being consumed in this facility.
