Sunscreens and tanning oil protect the dermal layer from cancer with organic compounds that absorb UV light. Tanning oil decreases the time needed to tan; when applied to the skin, it begins working immediately to stimulate the body to produce more melanin. The Khetan-MacManus Spencer collaborative group has previously determined the concentrations and photolytic products of Octyl dimethyl para-aminobenzoic acid (OD-PABA) that are toxic to dermal fibroblast cells. However, the effects of the photoprotective compounds or their derivatives in Banana Boat Tanning Spray Oil on cellular toxicity have not been researched in depth. Our latest findings suggest that solutions of tanning oil negatively affect the fibroblasts.
