The purpose of my study is to delve deeper into the meaning of diversity, and to evaluate the social climate for Posse, AOP, and students of color on Union College's campus. My thesis is meant to help us fathom how the political climate post-Trump has changed the phenomenon of covert racism--as it has become more conspicuous and unapologetic--and help to create a new era of subtle racism on college campuses. My thesis investigates the history behind racism on college campuses by exploring the different roles of historically black and white institutions' policies. I have researched the role of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in nurturing black education, how they differ from white institutions, and the present-day ramifications of students navigating racial narratives while also trying to achieve institutional success.
