The lack of clean drinkable water around the world is a problem that is sometimes overlooked but it is one of the most crucial necessities that many are missing. In developing countries, the severe lack of clean drinkable water has resulted in the suffering of millions of people from preventable water-related diseases. Based on other studies that have been conducted on solar systems and solar cookers to purify water, experiments were conducted using two different solar cooker to heat water to various temperatures and testing the bacteria level before and after heating. This system has great potential to be implemented in the many developing countries that have access to direct sunlight for most of the year. Some of the great benefits of using solar thermal energy to disinfect water is that it is relatively inexpensive and a sustainable solution requiring no external energy sources. It also can allow for the effective removal of chemicals and pathogens through direct sun exposure. For this application large solar systems are not needed since the size of the water purification system can be scaled to the needs of the community.
