Through the lens of the experiences of minorities (people of color or more specifically, anyone who is not white), my poetry offers readers and listeners the opportunity to share an unfamiliar perspective. This collection exposes inequality through the prism of a creative mind that hurts for humans who cannot live with the same ease as white men and women. Ideally, those who tune in will become more open-minded and receptive to the hardships faced by others. My poems are influenced by my personal experiences, as well as by a variety of poets, artists and historical figures, including Brockhampton, Claudia Rankine, Kendrick Lamar and Dread Scott. History, music, politics and experience impact my poems and their organization. If these topics make my readers or listeners uncomfortable, that is the intent.
