My project will use sociological theory to analyze the misperception of miscarriages in society, and compare it with the reality of prevalence and experience and how that impacts the grieving process. Specifically, I intend to designate the majority of my research to the stigma surrounding miscarriages such as if there has always been a stigma, the roots of its stigma in society, and the intersection of gender and race. To supplement my analysis, I will investigate personal accounts and the public reaction, which will include suggestions to improve the social perception.
