Technology enabling low-noise recording of nerves using metal electrodes has been key to modern high resolution electrophysiological research. Typically, a neural recording setup consists of large benchtop preamplifiers, amplifiers, filters and digitizers, all working together to capture signals from nerves for future analysis on a computer. I am developing a portable battery powered all-in-one electrophysiology recording device that is capable of amplifying, filtering, digitizing, recording, and visualizing such signals. In its completed form, this device will allow electrophysiological studies to be untethered from the lab environment, and be conducted in nature for hours without disturbance by a technician.
