Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are a major source of water contamination and long-term exposure can lead to respiratory and chronic health issues. The ability to quickly and accurately detect VOCs is becoming increasingly important. This work presents the design and application of tungsten disulfide (WS2) based printable electrodes for VOC detection. First, conductive WS2 ink was prepared for the screen printing process with the annealing condition and layer number optimized for highest conductivity. Then, the electrochemical properties of printed WS2 electrodes were determined and the resulting impedance further analyzed with an equivalent circuit fitting to get the true resistance. Finally, the VOC sensor was prepared by printing the WS2 based conductive ink using the screen printing method placed above a silver (Ag) interdigital electrode. The impedance data obtained in various VOC atmospheres was evaluated with respect to the sensing properties. The results were analyzed by electrical performance and signals of the as-fabricated screen printed electrodes to determine VOC sensitivity.
