Guidance for Moderating Oral Presentation Sessions
- Arrive at the session early (~10 minutes) to introduce yourself to presenters and help them get their presentations on the lectern computer or try out attaching their laptop. Students have been advised to arrive 10 minutes early too. Please ask how they would like to be referred to and introduced, e.g., by sharing names and pronouns.
- There will be roaming ITS staff + student helpers. They will have name tags and are instructed to check in with session moderators. There is one student helper for approx. 3 classrooms. You can always dial x7007 to contact Learning Environments - ITS Staff Help Line, if there is a technical problem.
- At the beginning of the session please remind attendees to only enter / leave the room between presentations or during the Q&A. Also, please privately remind presenters that it is polite for them to stay for the entire session, unless then they need to go to another presentation they are presenting at. (Note: The Lothridge Festival of Dance has a 3 PM warm-up scheduled, so dancers are excused at 2:30 PM.)
- For each presenter, please briefly introduce them and then keep time for their talk.
- Presentations are scheduled to be 20 minutes in duration, including time (5 minutes) for questions. It is important to adhere to the schedule so that people can move between sessions when necessary. The times for each presentation are noted on the program. If it is necessary to modify the schedule of your session in any way, please reach out to the Director of Undergraduate Research so that the changes can be reflected in the online schedule and the printed addendum.
