35mm: A Musical Exhibition is an incredibly niche experience involving the collision of photography with vocal musical elements. The central theme of 35mm revolves around the countless stories one image can tell, involving musical compositions written by composer Ryan Scott Oliver, based on photographs taken by artist Matthew Murphy. Their collaboration produced a show that is brilliantly eloquent - the audience is left to read into the images in front of them, searching for the threads the actors leave woven into thrilling tales for them. An unfortunate aspect of 35mm presents itself in the show's insistence on being an art exhibit in addition to a theatrical piece. This leaves many productions to stage 35mm using the bare minimum of scenic elements, similar to how classical museum art exhibits would present themselves. This thesis aims to put the theatrics of 35mm: A Musical Exhibition first, utilizing themes of the nostalgia of storytelling to guide three distinct goals: a full set design and model, based on campsites present in the Adirondack Park; a demonstration of one of the key props - a functioning faux campfire, complete with special lighting elements to recreate a fire-like effect; a live vocal performance of one of Oliver's compositions: Mama Let Me In, with guest artists Maggie Kelley, Mel de la Cruz, Vic Lucontoni, Spencer Newman, and Brian Rusk.
