This presentation examines the historical past of Argentina and how the country and their society chose to address the negative impact of the trauma on society from Argentina’s military atrocities. From my personal experience during the study abroad mini-term I attended, the method that is most present, clear, and impactful is the creation of public memory through physical “objects”. Physical object refers to memorial spaces, public displays, and other methods of building persistent public reminders of the war crimes of the past. All this is done to remember and honor those who suffered at the hands of the dictatorship, and to ensure that this horrific history does not repeat itself.
