Each year, the Student Green Fee grants a student or a group of students up to $25,000 towards a project to make our campus more sustainable. In the past, a wide variety of projects have been funded, such as installing water refill stations across campus to decrease the amount of plastic water usage, acquiring bikes and developing the U-bike system to encourage students to drive less on campus, and installations of solar panels on Garnet Commons. This year, the awarded project involves an eco-renovation of Ozone House, the environmentally conscious theme house. The renovations include the addition of an all natives rain garden to divert rain water, prevent humidity related decay and add beauty to our campus. In addition, windows on the South side of the property, are badly damaged and will be replaced, allowing Ozone house, and the campus as a whole, to improve their energy efficiency. The project is in process and will be completed by Fall 2019.
