The transgender community experiences pervasive social, political, and economic marginalization which shape health trajectories and overall well-being. Structural barriers to LGBTQ+ competent health services further exacerbate disparities in health status. To measure the discrepancies in health-related quality of life, diagnosis of chronic health conditions, and health risk behaviors between transgender and cisgender people, survey data from the CDC's Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (2020-2022) is analyzed. The State Equality Index developed by Human Rights Campaign is integrated to compare the health of transgender people in U.S. states that are deemed inclusive versus restrictive with respect to LGBTQ+ policies. This research demonstrates that poor transgender health is associated with anti-LGBTQ+ legislation.
