Mistreatment of our environment has led to degradation of resources as well as environmental pollution that has resulted in severe problems for our quality of life. The problems that are created are not always distributed in equal ways and marginalized members of our society, particularly with regard to race, education and socioeconomics, have been shown to receive a disproportionate level of life-threatening conditions. This study examines the development and implementation of environmental justice policies and offers an in-depth analysis of two communities in West Virginia and Massascussetts where industrial pollution resulted in toxic and life-threatening conditions for marginalized members of the community. Policy recommendations and the prevention of such injustices are discussed.
