Becoming a Supernova at the End of the World is about the stories we tell about death and the choices taken to cope with loss. Diagnosed with Fibrolamellar Carcinoma, a rare form of liver cancer, Sam Pham doesn't have much time left to live. Sam, the youngest child in his family, has outlived his brother Shiloh and sister Sarah. After he returns to urgent care, this day in the hospital marks the beginning of the end. With his parents and partner, Trevor, by his side, Sam has another visitor waiting to see him. When he is alone, Death makes his appearance in Sam's hospital room, carrying a cardboard box containing the lost and forgotten belongings of the Pham family and, more importantly, Sam's Life Review. These individualized videos contain the memories of the dead, and Sam's is currently blank. Death offers him a deal—watch the Life Reviews belonging to his siblings, with the opportunity to create his own—or die. Not wanting to upset Death, Sam accepts his offer, and the VHS tape containing Shiloh's Life Review begins to play. What will the past reveal to Sam, and what is the purpose of Death's untimely visit? At its core, Becoming a Supernova at the End of the World follows one family's attempt to continue living through generations of grief and Sam's journey to find closure before his time with Death ends.
