This design project focuses on developing a new and innovative direct clip bolt-hanger system for the sport climbing division of rock climbing. The existing system involves a bolt, a hanger, and a quickdraw. The quickdraw adds additional cost and operational difficulty for the climber. The new design combines the hanger and quickdraw into a single piece of hardware with the aim of matching safety standards and improving ease of operation. The design incorporates a hook feature and protective nose guard; both were modeled as curved members. The design successfully dimensions the hardware with a proposed method of manufacturing of closed die drop forging. The limitations of the current design iteration are the larger size and cost compared against the existing system; further work will be needed to reduce both.
