The Achilles tendon is the largest tendon in the human body. The tendon lies at the back of the ankle and links the calf muscles to the heel bone. The goal of finding out the material characterization on the Achilles tendon with and without treatment is to strengthen the tendon. This will be done using a microCT scanner to get the cross-sectional area of the Achilles tendon before testing it on the load frame. To understand whether or not treatment strengthens the Achilles tendon, the stress and true strain behavior of tendons are characterized. Given the understanding of whether or not this solution strengthens the Achilles tendon, it will enable medical professionals to suggest potential future strategies, such as replacement surgery and using cadaver tissues instead of own tendon, which would encourage bone growth.
