Birthing practices vary from place to place according to culture and available technology. The Klemm Fellowship allowed Christina Dykas and Eric Lovett Jr. to intern in Arusha, Tanzania, at the Ngarenaro Hospital, where they were able to observe and assist in prenatal care, midwifery led births, postpartum care, and pediatric care. The differences between Arusha and the United States were very significant and could be seen specifically in the available technology, hospital dynamics, maternal care, infant care, and records of care. This presentation outlines a step by step process of care provided for mothers and infant children in Tanzania and how these generally compare to the United States.
