We constructed two quantum optical setups to control and detect single photons generated via Type-I and Type-II spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC). The photons, denoted signal and idler, were detected in coincidence using a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). The data acquisition and user interfaces to manipulate the photon counts were programmed in LabVIEW. More recently, we have developed a new GUI to allow for single photon experiments in higher-level physics courses. We aligned a Mach-Zhender interferometer into one of our optical setups to measure single photon interference and to perform the quantum eraser experiment. The other optical setup was built to investigate the consequences of entanglement.
