I was able to spend three weeks conducting shark conservation in Fiji through the Klemm Fellowship. The conservation project I conducted focused not only on direct interactions with sharks such as observing, identifying and tagging but also on indirect methods. These methods included surveying indicator prey fish species, conducting mangrove reforestation around shark nurseries, and participating in local shark awareness education surveys and workshops. Direct and indirect must take place concurrently in order to produce effective conservation.
