Cash as humanitarian aid is one of the most effective ways at helping refugees and undocumented immigrants to resettle and prosper in an unfamiliar region, but some proportion of the donations made are lost as the aid travels to the beneficiary because of transactional inefficiencies due to intermediaries involved. This paper proposes a cash aid distribution system using cryptocurrency to help Venezuelan refugees in Colombia while allowing the donor to track and verify their transactions through smart contracts recorded in the blockchain network. This could mitigate transactional inefficiencies as money can be transferred digitally.
