During the 2023 winter break, I embarked on a Klemm Fellowship to Cusco, Peru, where I interned for three weeks in the midwifery and OB-GYN departments of two clinics. Throughout the three weeks I witnessed multiple live births, as well as learned about ultrasounds, fetal heartbeat, uterine measurements, pre and postpartum care, and more! Through my presentation I will share more details about my day to day experiences in the clinics. I will discuss the differences in maternal healthcare between Peru and the United States from my firsthand experiences. I will also discuss the slight language barrier and how we communicated, as well as the friends that I made there. Overall, I will reflect on the entire experience and discuss the ways in which this internship has impacted me, as well as what I will carry with me into my future career.
