Today, much of the political climate of the United States revolves around immigration and undocumented immigrants. With the tightening of the Mexican American border and stricter political initiatives, the U.S. continues to try to deter undocumented immigrants from entering the country. Operation Streamline is one of many Federal government programs that aims to expose undocumented immigrants to the U.S. penal system. Therefore, the number of detained immigrants continues to grow, which plays an integral part in the expanding, for-profit private detention and prison system. As a result, the privatized system has a significant effect on undocumented immigrants and continues to have dominant role in today's immigration policies.
