In 2000 the World Health Organization praised France’s health care system, exclaiming that France had a system that could be an example for the world. Now almost two decades later, levels of obesity in France have doubled, even as they remain at only 10 percent. Even though we may be far from the days of Marie-Antoinette saying about her starving subjects "Let them eat cake!,” we still need to look at various disparities and their effects on health in particular populations in France. My analysis suggests that, with 30 percent of the world overweight or obese, it is statistically evident that we can learn from the French way of life.
