The Fevers Unit at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital offers a holistic HIV/AIDS treatment program that emphasizes physical and mental well-being for all patients. Despite the unique challenges the clinic faces, it provides healthcare in a welcoming, tough-love environment. I watched clinic staff work tirelessly to de-stigmatize HIV and provide not only medical treatment, but emotional support for patients. I also saw the frustrations of the clinic, including dangerous interventions from spiritual and herbal leaders. During my time there as a Klemm fellow, I developed a new perspective on healthcare, gained an appreciation for the spontaneity in life, and spoken some (poorly pronounced) Twi.
