Marine ecosystems often carry a sense of mystery, particularly when it comes to apex predators like sharks, which are frequently misunderstood in public narratives. This project, supported by the Klemm Fellowship allowed me to work as Marine Conservation Intern with ProjectsAbroad in Pacific Harbor, Fiji. It included completing the PADI Open Water Diver certification, participating in coral reef monitoring, mangrove replantation and nursery care, fish identification, marine education, survey dives contributing to applied research, and a dive with sharks. The experience also included immersion in local Fijian communities, Fijian language lessons, and a visit to a local village all while living on Fiji Time.
