The Sri Lankan Healthcare system can be divided into three areas: Western medicine, Public Health, and Ayurvedic Medicine. Discover how the Sri Lankan culture and history has affected their healthcare system, specifically an insight into maternal care. Through the Klemm Fellowship, I had the opportunity to intern at the De Soysa Women's Hospital in Colombo (the oldest women's hospital in Sri Lanka) where I was able to observe surgeries, interact with patients, and more. I was also able to learn more about ayurvedic practices, as well as conduct home visits in an effort to check up on mothers and/or their infants. I look forward to sharing my experiences of this culture, and the insights I learned along the way.
