As a recipient of the Klemm Fellowship, I completed a medical internship in Cusco, Peru, where I had the opportunity to shadow physicians, observe surgeries, and engage with patients in a clinical setting. This experience provided valuable insights into the Peruvian healthcare system, the challenges of practicing medicine in a resource-limited environment, and the cultural aspects of patient care. In my presentation, I will reflect on my time in Peru, covering key aspects of my internship, interactions with healthcare professionals, family life with my host family, language immersion, friendships, and the rich cultural experiences that shaped my journey.
