We are often taught that revenge is morally wrong and retributive punishment is morally right. Many philosophers also hold that revenge is fundamentally different from retributive punishment. The purpose of this paper is to argue 1.) that retributive punishment is not fundamentally different from revenge and 2.) that revenge is just.
